Basement Systems a Stop on the Harvest House Food Drive Tour
In the past few years, the Valley United Way's Harvest House project has collected hundreds of thousands of non-perishable food items to fill needy local food banks, and this year is expected to be no different. Local basement waterproofing company Basement Systems has jumped on board to help out by being a stop on the Harvest House Food Drive Tour, which was designed to give local businesses the chance to be a "tour stop" and help out the Valley United Way. Harvest House IV will be taking place on September 24 at the Riverfront in Shelton.
Harvest House is a collaborative bi-annual effort to construct a 400-square-foot house and fill it with more than 100,000 items of food and non-perishables, which are later distributed to Valley-based food banks and agencies for people in need. The goal is to bring the local food banks into the public eye and remind everyone how badly they need to be filled, especially as we approach the holiday season.
The Food Drive Tour will be making stops at several companies throughout the Greater Valley. Each company collects food from its employees, and United Way representatives spotlight the companies on their assigned day with a banner and photos. On September 1, Basement Systems was a tour stop. Employees posed proudly behind a stack of non-perishable food items.
"Basement Systems models our core efforts," said Pat Tarasovic, Director of the Volunteer Center at the Valley United Way. "Harvest House has become a monument to the coalition between the community and the corporations in addressing the need."
